May 1st – the last day to get the European Championship half marathon standard. A half marathon PB four weeks ago, a marathon PB two weeks ago, a week of congress, lots of traveling and jetlag. Shit on that..I had a second chance…taken!
7:55 am the US championship starts. 8:00 am I start together with the open field. A bit lonely but I could push and roll for most of the time: 9 Miles in 52:08. Another mile to do the math; even two or three times to be sure. Mile 10 – I am not going to make it. So far no pain, no destructive physical impact but black on white: Trial and ERROR!!! Accept, Adios Amsterdam – 3 Miles cooldown to the finish. That was my race today.
Of course I am disappointed about not making it to Amsterdam. However, interestingly I am not upset or feel broken. In contrast, I was actually laughing about myself. I trusted my superpower and went out to give it a shot. Not a big deal but I have a quite mind now.
It did not harm or hurt. I did what I had to do. I am enriched with another experience – a US championship race. I have been treated very well thanks to the excellent race organization (#capcityhalf #usatf #sportsincbus).
It is time to get home, recover, train well and set exciting goals for 2016!
Yours,
Mona
